About the role

The position will involve the following areas of responsibility:

• Identify the organisation’s buying needs in this product category by understanding the target market and analysing trends to make informed buying decisions.

• Participate in the research, selection, and assessment of potential suppliers. Lead the engagement, onboarding, and management of suppliers from a Buying perspective.

• Work closely with the Category Management team to understand our product requirements and facilitate the execution of bringing new products to market.

• Build constructive relationships with our Supplier partners and handle regular commercial negotiations for the best prices, order quantities, delivery terms, display/merchandising material, marketing contributions and turnover rebates plus any other commercial topic which may need addressing as part of the overall package.

• Regularly monitor raw material prices, currency fluctuations and other supplier input costs which may affect product prices. Use current market information to contest any unreasonable price increases.

• Assess and plan annual buying forecasts and delivery schedules with factories and encourage stock contingency planning wherever possible. Analyse inventory and sales trends collaboratively with the Category and Sales Management teams to ensure high stock availability through the year.

• Regular international travel to visit factories to review commercial and operational performance. Identify and attend relevant Trade Exhibitions to target new products or suppliers for the Category.

• Process standard and project specific purchase orders, negotiating preferential terms where relevant and keeping key stakeholders updated on the status of their orders with the help of assigned Purchasing officer.

• Liaise with inventory team to ensure optimal stock levels, setting of Safety stock levels in line with trends or expected sales and ensure stocks are balanced.

• Monitor the stock quality in conjunction with the Quality Assurance team and escalate any discrepancies to suppliers and management.

About You

 

• Minimum of 10 years’ experience specific to Slabs and Tiles category
• CIPS or related buying qualifications are preferred.
• Strong commercial awareness and negotiation abilities
• Creative Mindset
• Confident and experienced to make proactive decisions.
• Calm under pressure and highly adaptable.
• Positive attitude, excellent communication skills and a passion for product
• Excellent organisational and analytical skills
• Someone who thrives in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment.
